Don’t Miss These Big 4 Deadlines: Fall Recruiting Updates for Accounting Students

Interested in a career in accounting, audit, tax, or consulting? Our Industry and Alumni Engagement team recently had conversations with recruiters from KPMG, EY, Deloitte, and PwC and received important recruiting updates that could impact your job search. Keep reading to see what they learned.

A major trend among firms is a shorter “offer-to-start” timeline. KPMG and EY are moving toward offering opportunities 12 to 16 months before the internship begins, meaning recruiting is happening closer to actual start dates than in previous years.  Some applications close before fall term begins, so be sure to prepare early!

1. Include AI Experience

Recruiters consistently emphasized that students should demonstrate AI literacy on their resumes. Coursework, projects, research, or practical use of AI tools can help you stand out.

2. Differentiate Yourself

Many audit and tax resumes look similar. Consider highlighting:

  • A unique minor
  • Leadership experiences
  • Data analytics or technology skills
  • International experiences
  • Specialized interests or projects

3. Act on Feedback

Recruiters appreciate interns who seek feedback, but they want to see evidence that students apply that feedback and improve.

4. Stay Professional

Recruiters reported cases of students missing interviews or ghosting employers after accepting offers. Professional communication matters and reflects on both you and future UO candidates.

5. Keep Your Grades Up

Even after receiving a return offer, academic performance still matters. Significant grade declines can affect employment offers.
