Position Summary
The Education Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Education Coordinator to assist with all aspects of coordinating the Youth Advisory Council and with educational presentations to the community about HIV/AIDS and HIV Alliance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Assist the Education Coordinator in the development and execution of all aspects of Youth Advisory Council and educational programming, including:
- Outreach, recruitment, onboarding, support and coordination of new Youth Advisory Council members
- Coordination and scheduling of Youth Advisory Council meetings
- Incorporate Council feedback into Education Program and general agency services
- Conduct outreach & follow up with schools, treatment centers, and other facilities to promote presentations
- Respond to requests for education presentations
- Update presentations and other materials needed to keep them up-to-date and accurate
- Schedule presentations, distribute and collect any paperwork necessary for each presentation
- Track education data and maintain data spreadsheet including such information as: speaker contact information, number of presentations scheduled and completed, number of students reached, and pre-/post- test results
- Assist with updating the Education section of the HIV Alliance website
- Identify and implement improvements to education programs and materials
Required Qualifications
1 year of experience with patient/client interaction and/or 2 years of administrative experience
Experience or training/education in providing evidence-based public health or related service
Experience working with youth and educators
Comfortable discussing sex, drug use, and HIV/AIDS
Knowledge of the unique issues affecting high-risk communities and willingness to learn about culturally relevant interventions for gay and bisexual men, people who inject drugs and people living with HIV/AIDS
Willingness to work with:
- marginalized, underserved populations
- people who inject drugs
- sex workers
- gay/bisexual men and other men who have sex with men
- individuals engaging in behavior considered to be high-risk for HI
- gay/bisexual young men and young people who inject drugs
Ability to work on a team successfully and effectively
Effective spokesperson and advocate – ability to negotiate and represent agency and importance of HIV/AIDS issues
Ability to communicate in group setting, facilitation skills a plus
Ability to build and maintain bridges between HIV Alliance and its clients, other non-profit agencies, governmental entities, key community stakeholder
Experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, and Social Media outreach/technology like Instagram, TikTok, etc.
Detail-oriented
Ability to work with diverse population
Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
Strong record keeping and organizational skills
Flexible hours required, including some evenings and weekend
Team player who is self-motivated, high-energy, and enthusiastic
TB test (provided at agency)
Valid Oregon driver’s license, driving record sufficient to be covered by agency auto insurance policy, ability to transport self to job-related events and locations
Comfortable driving in inclement weather
Ability to use a computer, sit and stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 30lbs
Ability to pass agency criminal background check
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required
- Repetitive use of hands such as grasping, twisting/turning of wrists, and finger dexterity necessary to perform various clerical duties, such as typing and writing.
- Frequent use of arms such as pushing and pulling to open and close drawers and cabinets
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at an assigned station
- Ability to bend, stand, and reach to be able to transport clients and to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds (harm reduction kits, naloxone kits, testing and education materials)
- Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for processing of paperwork

- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to work 5 days per week for a minimum of 20 hours per week
