On October 15, I had the opportunity to attend BizCareers in Finance and Real Estate, hosted by Mohr Career Services in collaboration with the University of Oregon Real Estate Investment Group.
The Lundquist College of Business has been expanding its real estate education, adding several courses over the past two years. Through BizCareers, I was able to see how what I’m learning in the classroom translates into professional practice.
Connecting with Industry Professionals
The event featured six interactive, moderated Q&A sessions with professionals working across different industries and career paths, from community banking to investment sales brokerage.
Throughout the sessions, professionals shared their experiences and answered student questions on topics ranging from early career advice to work-life balance.
Participating professionals included:
- Brett Norris – Vice President, Ferguson Wellman and West Bearing
- Jin Plummer – Vice President and Business Client Advisor, Summit Bank
- Royce Reinhart – Vice President and Strategic Real Estate Advisor to Corporate Occupiers, JLL
- Jessica Ramey – Executive Vice President and Real Estate Advisor, JLL
- Tyler Kepler – Senior Vice President, SKB
- David Tabata – Managing Director, Marcus & Millichap
- Damon Rose – Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer, Columbia Bank
- Robert King – Talent Acquisition Recruiter, D.A. Davidson Companies
Making the Most of the Experience
The next morning, professionals returned for a networking breakfast with students. After having time to reflect on the previous day’s discussions, we had the chance to ask more personalized questions and continue conversations with professionals.
Together, the Q&A sessions and networking breakfast gave me valuable insights into different career paths in finance and real estate.
Through these experiences, I was able to grow my professional network while practicing my networking skills and learning how to engage with professionals in the industry.
If you’re interested in a career in commercial real estate or finance, I recommend attending the next BizCareers in Finance and Real Estate event. You might discover a firm you’re passionate about or make a connection that opens the door to a future opportunity.
