See Into The Future — Check Out Employment Trends for 2024

Employment Insights To Help You Stand Out

Maybe you are graduating this June, or maybe you are looking for an internship. Either way, it’s helpful to know about the current employment landscape.

Our Mohr Career Services team has been talking to employers and this is what we’ve learned:

  • “Human” skills—those soft skills that include communication, teamwork, leadership, etc. are more important than ever! Yes, AI is all around, but employers still want to see soft skills. Be sure to incorporate those skills into the bullet points on your resume!
  • Technical skills count! Employers are looking for experience with AI, Excel, data visualization, and data-driven decision making. Capture your technical skills on your resume. If you need to add more, consider offerings from Professional Edge.
  • Companies appreciate candidates who show initiative! Take initiative to meet with recruiters, hiring managers, or UO alumni in the companies where you would like to apply. Reach out FIRST, make a connection and ask some questions BEFORE you apply.
  • Expand the scope of your search! Many recruiters reported that they have filled their quota of positions—do NOT let that stop you! That just means it is time to do a little more research, find companies that might not be as well known yet, and seek out opportunities there.
  • It is never too early to start building connections with companies! Since many recruiters are filling positions earlier, that means getting started on your job search earlier. Go to events that Mohr Career Services hosts, such as company information sessions and Industry Bites. Connect with UO alumni via LinkedIn, and attend the Spring Career Expo.

If you are a business student graduating this June, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Winter 2024 Salary Survey has some good news— five of the top ten degrees most in-demand are directly related to Lundquist concentrations! And, on average, Business graduates are projected to see a 3% increase in salaries for 2024!

If you are a senior looking for a post-grad position, make a “Graduating Senior” appointment with a Career Advisor at Mohr Career Services. It is time to put together a strategy and land your first career job. An exciting adventure awaits!
