Meet Joe Mattson (MBA ’07), an alum who continues to strengthen the Lundquist community by giving back to the next generation of students. On Lundquist Connect, Joe’s conversations and mentorship have made a real difference for students navigating their own career paths. His commitment stems from a place of gratitude for the connections that helped shape his own professional journey.
“I’m proud to be an alum of the MBA program and want to stay connected to the community in any way I can,” Joe shared. “I even landed my first job after graduate school because of the generosity of another Lundquist alumnus who vouched for me and helped me get my foot in the door. Because of that, I want to do anything I can to continue to pay that generosity forward to the consistently impressive and ambitious students and graduates I’ve met through Lundquist Connect.”
Why Staying Connected Matters
That motivation led Joe to become an active mentor and resource for students on Lundquist Connect, the college’s exclusive networking platform designed to foster real-time connections between alumni and students. In a recent conversation with a student, Joe offered not only professional insights but something just as important—encouragement.
“A supportive, real, and empathetic voice on the other end of the line can be such a needed emotional boost in the midst of the slog that is a job search,” he reflected. Joe’s words highlight the critical role alumni play in helping students navigate transitions, build confidence, and stay resilient during challenging times.
For Joe, staying involved is about preserving what makes the Lundquist College experience so special. “Many of us came [here] because of the intimacy and personal connection the school gave us. It’s our responsibility to maintain and foster that spirit, and this is an easy way to do that,” he said. “Remembering and staying connected to my time at Oregon reminds me of who I am today, who I was then, and who I dreamed of becoming.”
Joe’s story is a powerful reminder that showing up—whether for a conversation, a mentorship connection, or simply offering encouragement—can create a ripple effect.
